THE COMPANY

- The CTO role was inside the newly established business unit “Vehicle Electrification”
SITUATION & CHALLENGES
- Responsibility for the product development of “vehicle electrification” systems and solutions with 480 engineers and a budget of €55m at 10 R&D sites and the product areas e-motor, power electronics, software & system integration, e-axles
- Challenges:
- Establishment of missing competencies (SW, System Engineering, FuSa, ASPICE, PLM,…)
- Full integration von Japanese und Italian R&D departments
- Securing the technical support of products in production, in launch, in the acquisition phase but also establishing base development and research / innovation
TARGETS
- Recruitment and filling of key positions (e.g. global head of e-motor development)
- Definition and Implementation of a global R&D growth and footprint strategy with the aim to have 60% of the global R&D engineer in “best cost country” sites by 2025
- Establishment of the Marelli Electric Powertrain product strategy with the corresponding technology- and product roadmaps
- Establishment of the Marelli Electric Powertrain Innovation-Management-System in close cooperation with Business Development / Product Planning and the Marelli Corporate Innovation Team
RESULTS & SUCCESSES
- Hand-Over to permanent CTO of a new R&D organization structure with plans for BCC R&D sites and offshore partners, a product strategy for all product segments as well as a plan for new engineering processes, methods & tools, reached ASPICE Level 1
- First business award of a complete e-axle
- Successful launch of motorcycle e-scooter inverter & software
